Massage therapy is available daily in the office, though the hours of availability vary with our therapist on staff.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is focused more on the deepest layers of the muscle tissues, tendons and fascia. This helps to target deep knots and adhesions while releasing chronic muscle tension. Other benefits include reduced inflammation and scar tissue release. Deeper techniques may be slightly uncomfortable and lead to soreness that lasts a couple of days before resulting in the desired relaxation and pain relief.
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the most commonly offered and best known type of massage therapy. It uses a vigorous system of treatments designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility and create relaxation. The therapist generally uses massage oils or lotions to facilitate making long, smooth strokes over the body. The purpose of this massage is relaxation only.
Pre/Post Natal Massage
Studies indicated that massage therapy performed during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.
Massage Therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques, which all aim to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. Swedish Massage is the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy because it addresses many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy. Women can begin massage therapy at any point in their pregnancy – during the first, second, or third trimester. The benefits of massage can improve overall prenatal health for many pregnant women. Along with the guidance and advice of a prenatal care provider, massage therapy can be incorporated into routine prenatal care as an emotional and physical health supplement proven to improve pregnancy outcome, and maternal health.
Women with high risk pregnancies and other factors should speak with their OB/GYN prior to receiving a massage, including those with pregnancy induced hypertension, pre-eclampsia, previous pre-term labor or recent birth.
